Grocery Card Program

Program Description

The BB4CK Grocery Card Program is currently NOT RUNNING!

We will keep everyone updated as we have more information

The BB4CK Grocery Card Program was developed during the Covid-19 Pandemic as a response to schools being shut down and BB4CK school lunch programs not being accessible. The program has evolved and shifted since its beginning. These changes have been based on changing health concerns, government regulations, school closures, budget allowances and learning from family experience. This program supports children permanently learning      at home, online that are in grade school (1-12). We provide a grocery card support of $40/child per month. Families choose their preferred grocery store and cards are mailed directly to family’s homes.

The goal of this program is two-fold;  to provide proxy income support to families so they have choice to purchase foods to nurture their own children and to build a bridge with families in-order to better understand their needs from BB4CK and include their voices in organizational practices, programs etc.

This program is guided by values of dignity and connection and the understanding of the root causes of food insecurity and responding with income support and the reduction of barriers to access.

STORIES

WE ARE PROUD OF ALL THE BB4CK FAMILIES

“When we receive the card, this is what I do. I ask Enzo and Amy what three things they want to add to the shopping cart. “I want to make taquitos,” the youngest would said; So, I would reply, “ok, what do we need?” And we make a list together. Then, we buy the ingredients we need, and we get together and have so much fun in the kitchen”

“The program helped a lot in a way that has given me the chance to focus on school,” said Alina with an optimistic tone in her voice. Orisa is very grateful and honored to be part of the BB4CK program because “We can buy the food we like.” They all enjoy and love to eat a traditional dish from back home with rice, fish, and vegetables”.

“….We cant usually buy fruits due to the high prices, but because of the gift cards that my kids are receiving, I am able to ask them what type of fruits they want me to buy. They always have fruits on our table that they can snack in especially after their online class. “
