Meet Bruce and Christy, two of our kitchen’s incredible core volunteers.
For nearly 7 years, Bruce and his wife have been weekly volunteers at the BB4CK kitchen. Bruce is amazing at managing the slicing machine, often times slicing 15 large items (cheese bricks, sandwich meats) all before 9am! He is always quick to jump in and take action to help kitchen mornings run smoothly.
“It is important to give back to the community and BB4CK is a very worthy cause. The testimonials from teachers and students show how important it is for school kids to have proper nourishment to support their learning efforts. My wife was a corporate volunteer years ago and when we both retired we thought this would be a good thing to do. The work is fun and very rewarding.” – Bruce
Christy first learned about BB4CK in 2007 when her yoga studio was raising money and awareness to help feed kids, over the next ten years she has volunteered off and on at the downtown kitchen. Christy is amazing at guiding our daily volunteers and makes excellent batches of muffins for the kids the kitchen feeds!
“I strongly believe that education is so important to our community and world and could not imagine trying to learn while hungry. It spoke to my heart so strongly that children should not be hungry anywhere in the world never mind in my own community. I feel so privileged to make the lunches for the children and love all the amazing people that I meet through being in the kitchen each week.” – Christy
