Wishing you Happy Holidays

While the holiday season can be a very happy or special one, for many, it can also be a stressful occasion.  For this week’s blog, we would like to share an inspirational story of one business who turned a negative incident into a series of positive events for the people they serve.

Two weeks ago, a number of small businesses in Lexington KY were robbed.  One of those stores, A Cup of Common Wealth Coffee Shop, decided to take a positive approach to the event:  they put up a Christmas tree where locals can pick up and drop off a gift, they are offering a free coffee to all visitors who shop at the affected stores and they have created a very special coffee donation wall:

On behalf of the Brown Bagging team, we wish you all a wonderful holiday season,

Creative Giving

We often get phone calls from local residents and organizations who are looking for ways to support the work we do here at Brown Bagging for Calgary’s Kids.  Volunteering in our kitchen or delivering the lunches to the schools doesn’t always work with everyone’s schedule but did you know that there are a variety of other ways that you or your organization can help?

We recently received a letter from a consulting company in Calgary who took it upon themselves to get creative and find ways to support local community initiatives. They provided 100 stuffed backpacks to Inner-City youth and also offered a complimentary boxed lunch to all staff with a pay-it-forward option to feed students in the community.  Money raised from the boxed lunch initiative was donated to Brown Bagging for Calgary’s Kids.

We are always so amazed to see how generous people are when it comes to feeding kids that would otherwise go without. Thank you Calgary!
