We often get phone calls from local residents and organizations who are looking for ways to support the work we do here at Brown Bagging for Calgary’s Kids. Volunteering in our kitchen or delivering the lunches to the schools doesn’t always work with everyone’s schedule but did you know that there are a variety of other ways that you or your organization can help?
We recently received a letter from a consulting company in Calgary who took it upon themselves to get creative and find ways to support local community initiatives. They provided 100 stuffed backpacks to Inner-City youth and also offered a complimentary boxed lunch to all staff with a pay-it-forward option to feed students in the community. Money raised from the boxed lunch initiative was donated to Brown Bagging for Calgary’s Kids.
We are always so amazed to see how generous people are when it comes to feeding kids that would otherwise go without. Thank you Calgary!

National Philanthropy week is fast approaching and there are tons of events popping up throughout our city.
This year’s theme is ‘Ripple Effect’ – How one experience, one small action, can start a ripple that creates deep and lasting change.
Everyone has the ability to create this change. Everyone can have an impact. Are you looking for some inspiration?
The NPD website will be updated with stories of impact and ideas meant to inspire others to create their own ripple.

It’s poppy time again and this year it is more important than ever to support our Veteran’s food banks.
The impact of the 2013 floods is still being felt throughout the city. We here at BB4CK have noticed an increase in schools accessing our program and are therefore, feeding many more kids. In September alone 8 schools were added and we began feeding 100 new kids.
It isn’t just BB4CK noticing the impact. It isn’t just Calgary’s kids struggling to access the food they need. The Calgary Veteran’s food bank is running dangerously low. Their shelves were depleted during the floods due to their own support of those in need and many Calgarians choosing to donate elsewhere during the crisis.
Many Veteran’s rely on these foodbanks to ensure they have the food in their homes for their families.
Calgarians have shown their incredible resiliency and desire to come together as a community this Summer. Here is another opportunity to show this wonderful city spirit .Let’s help stock these shelves with much needed food! When you see those poppy stands please donate what you can. Every little bit makes a difference and can provide some much needed food to those who have worked so hard to keep Canadians safe.
