School Lunch Program

What does hunger look like?

1 in 10 households in Alberta experience food insecurity– the inadequate or insecure access to food due to financial constraint. The problem is growing, and research shows that food insecurity in children is strongly linked to mental health problems and behavioral issues.
Currently, BB4CK provides lunches for kids is feeding kids in over 2/3rds of Calgary’s schools, and already 2% of Calgary’s kids. In some schools we are providing just one lunch are feeding just one child, in other schools, we are providing lunches for every student. The lunches provided are free and barrier free.

We deliver lunches

Nutritious lunches are prepared by volunteers in approved BB4CK kitchens all over the city daily. These lunches are safely delivered across the city by volunteer drivers directly to schools. Schools manage their lunch program through BB4CK’s online portal and can receive lunches every day of the school week if they choose.

Please contact Twyla at twyla@bb4ck.org for more information.

We fund school lunch programs

BB4CK provides funding directly to schools for preparing lunches in the form of grocery cards. Lunches are then made within the schools by groups of students, staff, or community volunteers. Some schools engage their culinary arts programs, paced learning, or leadership/volunteer club students in lunch preparation. BB4CK can also provide support for menu planning and food preparation logistics by creating a monthly budget helps groups manage their funds and forecast future funding needs.
