Early Bird

Early Bird volunteers are at the heart of our morning production and preform essential tasks to ensure children in our BB4CK community receive a nutritious lunch each day.
This includes setting up the kitchen first thing in the morning, making most of the daily sandwiches and ensuring the kitchen is prepped for the later arrival of our larger group of volunteers.
Following health and safety guidelines to keep our kitchen safe and welcoming, Early Bird volunteers make and seal sandwiches, prep fruit and prepare additional lunch needs as needed.
Typical shift: Monday to Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 8:00 a.m.

Morning Production

Morning Production volunteers begin at 8 a.m. and continue the daily meal production efforts of the Early Bird volunteers to ensure all meals are prepared and ready for delivery by 10 a.m.
Following health and safety guidelines, Morning Production volunteers make and seal sandwiches, wash and chop produce, set up tables for fruit, vegetable, and baked goods prep, all while putting their hearts into building lunches for kids with care.
This role also offers comradery and engagement with group volunteers.
Typical shift: Monday to Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

Morning Prep

Morning Prep volunteers play a crucial role in ensuring that the BB4CK kitchen flow is efficient and ready to tackle the day.
Following health and safety guidelines, Morning Prep volunteers manage the preparation and organization of fresh food items and baked goods required for same-day production as well as for the following day’s lunch production.
They keep the kitchen well organized and inviting to ensure a successful day of lunch production.
Typical shift: Monday to Thursday, 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

Afternoon Production

Our Afternoon Production volunteer leads and supports volunteer groups with good vibes in our downtown kitchen and works alongside the BB4CK Kitchen Volunteer Engagement Coordinator.
Following health and safety guidelines, the Afternoon Production role engages volunteers and cheers them on as they bake and cut fresh produce. This role has also been known to oversee friendly competitions to see who can make the most energy balls!
Whether ensuring muffins are being mixed properly, chatting with the group about creating food security, or counting energy balls, this role is a mixture of creating an engaging experience for the volunteer group while supporting production for the following day’s lunches.
Typical shift: Monday to Thursday, 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Inventory Receiver

Inventory Receiver volunteers ensure our kitchens can run effectively and efficiently during daily meal production times.
This role is responsible for managing food orders accurately upon delivery and organizing the fridges, freezers, and pantries throughout the kitchen.
Accurate, organized inventory allows Early Bird, Morning Production, and group volunteers to quickly and easily access food items needed to prepare lunches and stay on schedule so lunches can be eaten at noon!
Typical shift: Monday to Thursday, 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m

Snack Pack

Snack Pack volunteers contribute to a smooth meal assembly line and ensure school delivery bins are properly labeled and packed with the snacks for each day.
This role ensures all meal bins are packed with nutritious and delicious snacks and ready for the Lunch Pack volunteers to take over and continue packing lunches for Calgary’s kids.
Typical shift: Monday to Thursday, 6:00 a.m to 8:00 a.m

Delivery Driver

Delivery Driver volunteers are fundamental to our kitchen operations and ensure that the lunches made in our kitchen are delivered to schools on-time, every day.
This role consists of many components including loading meal bins into your vehicle, driving school delivery routes, delivering meal bins to the schools on your route list, collecting the previous day’s empty meal bins and icepacks from your school route list and unloading empty meal bins and ice packs to the kitchen upon your return.
Delivery Drivers connect our kitchens to kids, and kids to food.
Typical shift: Monday to Thursday, with the following pick up times:
9:15 a.m.
9:30 a.m.
9:45 a.m.
10:00 a.m.
Shifts are generally 2 hours long
