Celebrating the Legacy of Community Kitchens
For 15 years, community kitchen groups have been an important part of BB4CK’s story.
Week after week, volunteers gathered in kitchens across Calgary to support kids in their own communities. They shopped for groceries, prepared sandwiches, organized lunches, delivered food to schools, and helped connect kids with food close to home.
Their impact can be seen in the lunches prepared, the schools supported, and the kids who had access to food when they needed it. But community kitchens have always been about more than preparing lunches.
They became spaces of care, connection, friendship, and belonging. Places where neighbours worked side by side, where new friendships were formed, and where communities came together around a shared belief that every child deserves access to food.
Every community kitchen brought something unique to this journey. Some gathered in churches, community centres, workplaces, and shared spaces. Some volunteers joined for a season, while others dedicated years of service. And we’re grateful for every person who helped make this work possible.
As the community kitchen program comes to a close, we wanted to take a moment to recognize and celebrate the volunteers, team leads, community partners, and kitchen groups who have been part of this journey.
Your care, generosity, and commitment have made a lasting difference in the lives of kids across Calgary, and we’re forever grateful for everything you have contributed to this work over the past 15 years.
