Running with Heart: Meet James, the BB4CK Finance Lead (and Marathoner!)

Ever wonder what motivates someone to run a full marathon — and happily wake up early for it? Meet James Jeon, our Finance Lead, who’s lacing up for the Calgary Marathon this weekend.

I started running again in December 2023,” James shares. But it’s something I used to do with my dad in my twenties — marathons were our thing. Coming back to it has been nostalgic and rewarding.”

For James, running is how he stays balanced. It helps him manage stress, clear his mind, and keep his energy up — both as a parent and a finance professional. He trains three times a week, and it’s helping him get ready for race day.
His favourite routes? The Bow River pathway between Peace Bridge and Angel’s Café for scenic views, and the peaceful trails of Fish Creek Park offer beautiful, beginner-friendly paths that might inspire you to lace up and start running too.
This will be James’s first full marathon since returning to running, and for him, “just getting to the start line feels like a celebration.”

And here’s the exciting part:

Thanks to Alberta’s dairy farmers – Alberta Milk, all donations made through our Calgary Marathon link will be matched up to $30,000 until the end of race weekend (May 24–25). That means every dollar you give helps feed twice as many kids!

The Calgary Marathon Race Weekend is Canada’s longest running marathon and Alberta’s Best Road Race. With six distances to choose from, there’s something for every age and ability — whether you’re in it to run, walk, cheer, or donate!
